TMJ disorders

Functional diagnostics unfortunately has been paid insufficient attention in dental healthcare to date. This dental sector addresses the interdependencies of the overall masticatory system. These interdependencies play an extremely important role. Left unconsidered during treatment, these interdependencies can cause the most various ailments. The level of discomfort can range from general tooth pain via creaks of the temporomandibular joint to severe headaches. Strong tensions are also observed quite frequently. Unfortunately, these symptoms are often misinterpreted and treated improperly. This leads to a deterioration forcing the patient to take analgetics in many cases. A careful treatment of these disorders requires multiple steps in our opinion. Accurate diagnostics is the first step. The reason for the discomfort must be located. There are various approaches for determining the cause as precise as possible. The therapy using various splints is a classical and appropriate treatment approach. The temporomandibular joint should be measured in the context of diagnostics before the splints are manufactured. This measurement also serves to determine the exact layout of the joint pathways and the masticatory movement, which is indispensable for creating a preferably individual splint. We also often use this option for measuring the temporomandibular joint for an extremely complex care with dental prosthesis to ensure that the patient can perform optimal masticatory movements.
